Be-Resilient South Africa (BRSA)

UNESCO project - Addressing Climate Risk and building adaptive capacity in South Africa's Biosphere Reserves: Towards sustainable water and ecosystem management

RESEARCH AND SOCIAL IMPACT PROJECT

The primary goal of BRSA is to facilitate the development of efficient ecosystem-based and gender-sensitive adaptation strategies to tackle the issue of climate change in pilot areas of South Africa.

This is achieved using a participatory bottom-up approach, allowing all relevant stakeholders to be involved in the process.

The Eerste River Catchment (ECR) was identified as an appropriate case study for the Be-Resilient South Africa project within the Cape Winelands Biosphere Reserve (CWBR).

The BRSA’s many partners share a rich understanding with deep insights of the issues and challenges that accompany the ERC management realities. Their participation, contributions, institutional support, and influence are crucial for the BRSA project’s success in the ERC case.

This is where CoGo comes in. In 2021, we became an implementing partner and proposed to bring together researchers, specialists, and decision-makers to engage with each other and unpack the issues in the catchment landscape. Our approach is to take into account the reality of decision-makers and encourage action across overlapping scales of governance.
